OLAN W. REEVES, COMMISSIONER
ARKANSAS PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Olan W. Reeves of Bryant was appointed by Governor Mike Beebe to the Public Service
Commission effective January 15, 2009 for a six year term. Prior to this appointment
he was Chairman of the Workers’ Compensation Commission from January, 2003 until
January, 2009.
Prior to these appointments, Commissioner Reeves was Chief Legal Counsel to the
Governor from 1998-2003 and served as the State Drug Director from 1996 to 1998. He
also served as a lawyer in the Governor’s office during this same time period. He also
was Senior Assistant Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General from October,
1987 to July, 1996. He was a law clerk to Arkansas Supreme Court Associate Justice
David Newbern from 1985 to 1987.
From September, 1974 to May, 1982 he was a public school teacher in Hope, El Dorado
and Norphlet schools. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 1973 with a
B.A. in Religion and from Henderson State University in 1980 with an M.S.E. in
education.
Commissioner Reeves received his juris doctorate law degree from the University of
Arkansas School of Law at Fayetteville in 1985. He is licensed to practice law in the
Arkansas state courts since 1985, in the United States District Courts of Arkansas
since 1986, before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit since
1986, and before the United States Supreme Court since 1988.
As a member of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners, Reeves
has been appointed to the Committee on Energy Resources and the Environment. Reeves
is also a member of the University of Missouri, College of Business, Financial Research
Institute’s Advisory Board (Public Utility Division).
