PAUL SUSKIE, CHAIRMAN
ARKANSAS PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
Paul Suskie of North Little Rock was appointed by the Honorable Mike Beebe, Governor
of Arkansas, to the Arkansas Public Service Commission on January 30, 2007. The
Governor’s appointment designated Suskie to serve as Chairman of the Commission. At
the time of his appointment, he was serving in his third term as North Little Rock’s
City Attorney.
Suskie’s experience in North Little Rock included a variety of utilities issues.
As City Attorney he provided oversight of Arkansas’ largest municipally owned electric
utility as well as the historic merger of the Little Rock and North Little Rock water
commissions. Suskie also regulated utilities franchises within North Little Rock’s
city limits.
In his professional career, Suskie has worked in all three levels of government.
He worked for former United States Senator David Pryor in Pryor’s Washington and
Little Rock offices and was law clerk for Arkansas Attorney General Winston Bryant
before joining North Little Rock’s city attorney’s office.
Suskie is a graduate of the University of Central Arkansas and the University of
Arkansas at Little Rock School of Law and is past president of the Arkansas City
Attorneys’ Association. He is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Arkansas Army National
Guard's JAG Corp and is a veteran of both the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2005,
Suskie served a tour in Afghanistan and in 2008 took military leave from the
Commission to serve a tour in Iraq with the 39th Brigade Combat Team.
As a member of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners
(NARUC), Suskie has been appointed to the Electricity Committee, the Committee on
Consumer Affairs, and the Task Force on Climate Change. Suskie serves as the Arkansas
representative on the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) Regional State Committee (RSC) and
as the 2nd Vice-President of the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility
Commissioners (SEARUC). He also serves on the Advisory Council to New Mexico State
University's Center for Public Utilities. In 2007, Suskie was named to Arkansas
Business's Top 40 Under 40 list of individuals influencing business in Arkansas.
